At this point in the season, you’ve probably been bitten by the injury bug. You probably spent a 2nd or 3rd round pick on either Julio Jones or Randall Cobb, and are searching for their replacements, or just need a bye week fill-in. Well, I’ve got fantasy gold for you. There are 2 must-adds for your struggling wide receiver corps. At least one of these two players are still available in your league, and if you’re lucky, or in a league with a bunch of 12 year-olds, you can grab them both.
Keenan Allen, WR, San Diego Chargers.
He’s become Philip Rivers go-to receiver over the last 2 weeks. In week 5 he caught 6 passes for 119 yards and 1 touchdown, and was targeted a team-high 9 times. If you thought that was a fluke, in week 6, Allen was targeted 12 times for 9 receptions and 109 yards with 1 touchdown. In ESPN standard scoring leagues, that equals to 17 and 16 points, respectively. Add those numbers with the fact that San Diego is a pass-heavy offense , with a resurrected Phillip Rivers, and you’ve hit the jackpot.
Jarett Boykin, WR, Green Bay Packers.
This one is more of a gamble, but with Randall Cobb and James Jones going down with injuries in week 6, this has “Fantasy Gold” written all over it. So far, Jarrett Boykin has seen limited work, but is primed for a huge workload in week 7. In the second half of Green Bay’s week 6 match-up with Baltimore, he was targeted 6 times and took his only reception for 43 yards. Going in to the week 7 game against Cleveland, he’ll start alongside Jordy Nelson. He should get plenty of looks, with Nelson being covered by the Brown’s top corner, Joe Haden. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s got a decent quarterback named Aaron Rodgers throwing him the ball. Plug him in your lineup with confidence, and thank me on Monday.
